AboutKalpana Kishorekumar

What some happy tennis students say:

If someone has told me, you are going to be a computer freak…I would have laughed like hell!

Well, that was ten years ago, today, i stand here recognized as Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert for 2014 & 2015. Revisiting the road i traveled… I learned computers as they intrigued me, technology amazed me and yet it has to be said astounding machine! The Intriguing, amazing & astounding thoughts forced me to explore more and i reached a no man’s land where i became my own master!
With baby steps, i crawled the ladder, WINDOWS has been my companion throughout my journey [will be same till my last day], MS-Office became my language, as i built my career around it. I have never fancied for a different operating system and this day i stand tall and proud because of my ONE & ONLY CHOICE!
I always fancied a great career, i had it in India & once again blessed immensely in Brunei .Chung Hwa Middle School, BSB gave me opportunities that i never dreamt off. My life is good, I am blessed profoundly, thanks to the almighty, my family and friends, i am a successful woman, an educator widely known because of Microsoft!

What i want to do as an MIEE?

I want to be a messenger, a medium where i help to share whatever i learn in this journey. I believe in Shakespeares quote

" Some are born great, Some achieve greatness and Some have greatness thrust upon them".

While i don't consider myself as great, i want every teacher out there to achieve a greatness.

Now, why this blog? What are my intentions in sharing my expeience?

Its quite simple to answer thi question. I always believe that 'sharing is caring'. As an MIE Expert for two consecutive years, i realise i should not only concentrate on my professional development, but also the growth of my community, work to the benefit my country etc.

With Michelle Pudney, whom i met through our Facebook MIE Expert 2015 Group, impressed me to work along with her to start this blog which provides much needed infos and support to other educators, especially the aspiring MIEE to be.

Since April 2013, I have enjoyed the greatest moments in my life as i cannot believe it as it appears in to be a dream! My association with Microsoft for the past one year has provided a great insight about 21 CLD, useful Microsoft technologies, new educational methodologies and great professional development opportunities.

The Webinars i attended since December 2013 has brought in great changes in my career. I was never been so confident and now what i can say to people who dare me is "Give me more!"

Some great things i learnt with my assiciation with Microsoft are

  • 21 CLD - Though i have attended the workshop for 21 CLD, the concepts highlighted by Tracy Immel has brought a new dawn to my teaching career as my learning criterias are redefined

  • One Note: Share the magical experience of One note with my fellow teachers as i have explored the hidden secrets of One Note after attending the Global Forum and Webinars thereafter.

  • Teaching with Technology: Shared the knowledge of using various tools from Educators network with my colleagues. Its great to explore the countlesss tools that create a new experience in learning. Tools that is suitable to teach English to Science were discussed briefly during the session.

  • Having featured in Daily Edventures and local dailies and Magazine allowed me to share my thoughts and my insights with my community.

  • Yammer - Though i learnt about Yammer by myself, now i am able to effectively run it accross the school teachers community with ease. Working on Students Yammer group is challenging but i couldnot ignore the fun associated with setting up a parallel network for them

  • Numerous sharing sessions to brief teachers on what Microsoft trying to do in the area of Education allows me to express my gratitude to Microsoft. At the same time, i am happy to bring the good things to the vicinity of teachers.

  • Padlet: By creating the Wall of Wisdom in Padlet, i have initiated a new project in lending a helping hand and words to my fellow educators, especially to the aspiring teachers who seek the support and guidance of experts. This wall speaks their experience, beliefs, achievements, favourite quote as they relentlessly express themselves through their impressive words.                                                                        Click here to view: http://padlet.com/kalpanakishore/r9si5q8semfo

  • Collaborating with other Internationally acclaimed Experts Educators was a joy, as my words fail me again. Working on Projects that allows me to share my expertise and my students expertise has given us new learning experience.

  • Skype: With the new found relationships that i established over Global Forum, i was able to conduct successful Skype session with schools in Europe and Asia. I was succcessful in practicising what i learnt in the forum and Skype session is one of the best thing happened in our classroom. The connection, the knowledge shared provided an hands on experience to students and learning happens beyong the four walled conventional classroom.

  • Office 365: Conducting Work shops on Office 365, was the best experience for my teachers and students as they have learnt how to effectively to use the features given in there.

The journey and my quest for knowledge and experience doesn't end here... This blog that i share with Michelle is our beginning, where we bench mark what we have learnt and achieved so far. We love to hear from our beloved MIEE's about their experience too! Join this amazing initiative and contribute your experience to power up the future aspirants!

Special thanks to Microsoft for building me, my career and my future favourite as i don’t see myself without you! MSFT Brunei, thank you for supporting me for without you i could not have accomplished 50% of my dreams!

Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire!
